here's a little run-down of an event that the P.A.E.F has enabled 5 local dance teams to experience.
On July 11th and 12th, 20 local dance students and their supportive families travelled up to Torquay to take part in a life changing event and gain invaluable experience performing on a professional stage. Shine is an dance workshop and competition event run by another local school and affiliated with the U.D.O (United Dance Organisation) udostreetdance.com
Day 1 of Shine started at 9am sharp with a mass warm up, bringing young performers from all over the country together for a bit of fun, once warm and prepared, performers then went into a rotation of phenomenal workshops which were run by: Chuck (Got To Dance), Godson (Got To Dance) highly acclaimed contemporary practitioner Steven Aspinall and one Europe's finest hip hop and house dancers Frankie J. The workshops were inspirational to say the least, each teacher bought a fresh and unique take on their style and shared with the young performers knowledge, technique and variation in dance. A pool party followed the workshops, performers were able to network and explore the journeys that other students of the arts had come along to get to that point.
A showcase that evening allowed all of the dancers to show off their choreography and share their passion with a theatre audience, meanwhile the judges gave invaluable commentaries on the pieces, which were then given as constructive feedback following the weekend.
Day 2 of Shine kicked off with the team competitions. We bought home a 5th and a 2nd place trophy. we also had a student win her solo category and a third place in duos. A great result for all dancers involved :)
Without the help of the P.A.E.F, these dancers could have missed out on this opportunity to explore and share their passion with other dancers. It was a fantastic weekend!
